Hello! My name is Duke, the vet seems to think I’m 7 or 8 years old. Boy, do I have a story to tell. I was giving up hope as I laid in the street curled up in a ball hardly recognizable as a dog. I was abused, no access to food and water and left to die, but a nice animal control lady found me just in time! Thank goodness she called a rescue to pick me up because I was sick, and could hardly walk from the abuse I endured. She knew if she took me to the shelter I would be euthanized because of my poor health. The rescue took me in, I spent 3 weeks in the hospital, another month on kennel rest.
I have been with my new foster mom & dad for two weeks now. I’m getting stronger by the day. We take daily walks! We started out going ½ a block and I’m up to ½ a mile now. I’ve even learned to go up and down the stairs to my foster mom’s delight! I know my foster mom & dad would love to keep me, but they already have 2 dogs and a cat. I get along with everyone in the house and everywhere my foster mom takes me! I answer to Duke or “handsome” (my foster mom’s nickname for me.)
Hi, I’m Dukes foster mom, Linda. Duke is an absolute delight to have around. He’s so darn cute when he’s excited, he wiggles his whole butt and wags his tail around in circles like a propeller. He’s a talker when he’s super excited, especially when I’m getting his breakfast and dinner ready.
Duke is super chill and would do great in a house, condo or apartment. He loves his short daily walks and enjoys sunning himself. He sleeps through the night and is housebroken. He just needs to be taught where to go….in the two weeks we’ve had him, he has only had two accidents. He’s a quick learner and so eager to please! If I wasn’t at the max for pets in San Clemente, I would love to keep him.
Duke has a huge heart and so trusting. It amazes me how a dog can be so abused and still able to love & trust humans again. Another thing, he has a very gentle mouth and lets me put my hands in his food when he’s eating.
He is learning to love life! I feel blessed we can love on him until he get’s his furever home!
